As a co-founder and full-time employee of C Squared Ciders for the last 6 years, I brought all the skills and experience of my last 20 years in the industry and combined them with hard work, dedication, passion and sacrifice to make the business a success.  I have a great appreciation for both the historical and community connections of what I do and am humbly grateful for the satisfaction of creating something that other people enjoy.  After graduating from the American Brewers Guild Craft Diploma Program in 1997, I worked my way up in the craft beer industry, starting on bottling lines and earning my way to the brewer’s position and eventually director of operations and brewmaster.  I’ve served in various capacities for several large Colorado breweries including but not limited to Lefthand Brewery, Oskar Blues, and The Wynkoop Brewing Company.  Along the way I am proud to say I have hired and mentored many people who have gone on to have careers in the industry.  I have successfully collaborated with numerous distillers, wine makers, brewers, and chefs over the years.  Currently I also serve on the board of directors for the Rocky Mountain Cider Makers Association.  Despite having received dozens of G.A.B.F., World Beer Cup, GLINTCAP and other medals and accolades over the years, in the end I am happy to be able to pursue a passion and make a career doing what I love.

I’ve been extremely fortunate to have spent the majority of my adult life in all things craft, particularly the fermented type. In the early years, I honed my skills at breweries and wineries throughout the West where I met and worked with many of today’s leaders. That excitement continues today as I spend my days serving craft brewing in a senior technical sales role, for a well-known market leader. I earned a B.S. in Industrial Technology from the University of WI in 1990, and my Brewing Certification from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, London, UK in 1999. That educational B.S. serves as a great foundation from which I’ve built an ever-challenging career. Throughout my brewing travels of the US and Europe, I was always meeting apple growers, lugging juice home, pitching strange yeasts and re-inventing and pushing the boundaries of what I knew as traditional cider making. Forming a partnership with my long time comrade was as natural as fermentation itself, and C Squared was born. I thrive on brand creation, sales and marketing, and putting smiles on friendly faces while educating consumers and taking cider to the next level. I’m a World Beer Cup Winner and long time member of the Master Brewers Association of America, Institute of Brewing and Distilling, Brewers Association, U.S. Cider Makers Association and the Rocky Mountain Cider Makers Association. When I’m not working you will find me grooming cats or hanging with my better half; outside in the snow, water, dirt, or sand. I also try my best at growing cider apples, along with other botanicals for use in our ciders on my tiny urban property near Denver University.  You can email me at chadhatlestad@comcast.net.

A Colorado native, Brandon started making cider at home around 2012. After success in local competitions, he decided to turn pro and came to us at C Squared Ciders after working stints at Colorado Cider Company and as head cider maker at Houston Cider Company in Texas.  Brandon likes thinking outside the box and enjoys using non-traditional ingredients in ciders.  Look for some of his small batch creations, like carrot or curry spiced cider, in our tasting room in Penrose.
